Located in the hills above New Milford is an old farming community that still exudes the charm of country living. Bridgewater, probably most famous for its annual Bridgewater Country Fair, has beautiful homes that nestle into its rolling hills. Lake Lillinonah, a dammed portion of the Housatonic River, sits near its Brookfield border, inviting boaters and fishermen to enjoy the water.

Bridgewater operates under a Board of Selectmen/Board of Finance and town meeting form of government. It is a member of Regional School District #12 (along with neighboring towns Washington and Roxbury). Students first attend the Burnham School (grades K-6) in Bridgewater and then attend Shepaug Valley Middle/High School in Washington.
