Area Towns - New Milford
New Milford, bordered by the foothills of the Berkshires, and home to two large lakes and numerous streams, is bisected by the wide Housatonic River (its Indian name means Place Beyond the Mountains). Known as the "Gateway to the Litchfield Hills," the town's appeal is heightened by having one of New England's most charming Village Greens at its center.
A mayor and a town council govern New Milford. It has three elementary schools educating children from grades K through 5; an intermediate school; a middle school; and a new high school. New Milford is also the home to the private Canterbury School.
