Nestled in the hills along scenic Routes 67, 133 and 199, Roxbury was settled in 1710 and incorporated as a town in 1796. Its rural landscape is enhanced by its farms, nature preserves, Shepaug River, waterfalls and Lake Lillinonah waterfront.

Roxbury operates under a Board of Selectmen/Board of Finance form of government. It is a member of Regional School District #12 (along with neighboring towns Washington and Bridgewater), having a local elementary school, the Booth Free School, grades K-5 and sending students in grades 6-12 to Shepaug Valley Middle/High School in Washington.
